Chandigarh

A small Union Territory unto itself, Chandigarh is referred to as “The City Beautiful” due to its lovely surroundings. Showing off its central grid of streets and gardens, the city of Chandigarh was the first planned city in India post-independence in 1947. It is also known internationally for its architecture and urban design, prominently executed by French architect Le Corbusier. In addition to being the capital of both Haryana and Punjab, it boasts the highest per capita income and has recently been voted as the cleanest city in India. Nestled within the confines of its larger neighbors, Chandigarh offers a delightful urban oasis for those touring the greater northern regions of India.
